Step-by-Step Guides

Follow these guides to navigate each part of your visit.

Arriving at Mutianyu

  1. Take Tourist Bus 6 from Dongzhimen station (¥30 each way, runs 7am–12pm)

  2. Or book a DiDi — show the driver card below

  3. Buy your ticket at the main gate or show your online ticket QR code

  4. Take the cable car up (highly recommended — saves 45 min of climbing)

  5. Walk the wall east toward Tower 14 for the best views and fewer crowds

  6. Take the toboggan back down — fun and fast (buy at the top)

Making the Most of Your Visit

  1. Arrive before 10am to beat tour groups

  2. Bring water — there are limited vendors on the wall

  3. The east section (Tower 14–20) has the most dramatic scenery

  4. Wear layers — it is much cooler on the wall than in the city

  5. The toboggan has a 1.5km track — hold the brake handle to control speed

Insider Tips

  1. Go to Mutianyu, not Badaling — Badaling is the most famous section but also the most crowded.

  2. The cable car departs from the base — buy your combined ticket before joining the queue.

  3. East of Tower 20 is unrenovated and off-limits. Stick to the marked section.
