The soul of Chengdu — tea, mahjong, and slow life in a public park.
People's Park is the best window into authentic Chengdu daily life. Locals gather every morning to play mahjong, drink tea in bamboo chairs, practice tai chi, and get their ears cleaned by roaming artisans. The famous Heming Teahouse is inside the park.
Free to enter. Take Metro Line 4 to Tianfu Square and walk 10 minutes west, or Metro Line 2 to People's Park station. The teahouse is in the center of the park — look for bamboo chairs near the lake.

Park: 6:00am – 10:00pm. Teahouse: 8:00am – 8:00pm.

Jasmine tea (茉莉花茶 / mòlì huāchá) is the classic Chengdu teahouse order. Sit in the bamboo chairs by the lake.

Take Metro Line 2 to People's Park station or walk 10 min from Tianfu Square
Enter through the main south gate — admission is free
Walk toward the lake in the center of the park
Find the Heming Teahouse (鹤鸣茶社) on the lakeside — look for bamboo chairs
Sit down and a server will approach you. Order jasmine tea using the Travel Card.
Relax for an hour — watch locals play mahjong, do tai chi, and chat
Optional: try the ear-cleaning service from a roaming artisan (around ¥20)
Go in the morning — the park's local life is most authentic before 11am.
A pot of tea at Heming Teahouse costs ¥12–30 — you can sit as long as you like.
